So, when Jared was not yet one the recommendation for car seats changed. New recommendation is that instead of being 1 year AND 20 pounds children should be rearfacing until 2 OR 35 pounds (or out grown carseat guidelines).
That being said, my one year old was WELL over 20 pounds but NOT quite tall enough to be "too big" for his car seat. With a dad in the Pediatric field and telling other moms they need to keep their kids rearfacing we had no choice but to keep him facing the boys in the back. Luckily for us he is the one who never has really minded facing that way. He can see the brothers behind him, he can see the brother beside him, he watches out the window as the world flies by... he is content in the car!
WELL, we went to Arizona and I decided it was time to flip him. He is after all 2o months and ALMOST too tall for seat (he is a tall boy).
BAD IDEA!!!!!!
He screamed or yelled at me the entire way to and from Arizona -- a LONG trip.
He didn't sleep very well bc his neck was more upright and his legs were hanging down.
He could see me and wanted me to hold him.
He could see me everytime I "snuck" a snack or drank some water.
It was MISERABLE. I had a headache and was ready to flip him back.
And it didn't end. Even to the grocery store and back he whines at me and yells "mom" and has become a monsterous nighmare in the car. AHHH... so either we just left him rearfacing "too long" or he just should have stayed that way!!!
