Monday morning started at 7:09 when Trevor said "Is it morning time?"
Aaron asked if he was still tired and he replied no so he grabbed T and Jared who woke up while this was going on and headed out to the hall until the other 2 boys were up. I laid in bed for a few minutes then realized better get going... lots to do and see that day.
I hopped in the shower and was just starting to get dressed when Andrew knocked on the bathroom door. I got him in the shower to wash up and finished putting clothes on (hair still in the towel uncombed) when the fire alarm started going off. At first I just said, "you are kidding me" but it really was going off and so I pushed aside the thoughts of this is a prank and started throwing clothes out of the suitcase looking for something Andrew could throw on, yelling at Landon to wake up and throw something on and running a comb through my hair. I quickly decided to grab nothing except shoes and my camera and go. Then I panicked because I had no idea where Aaron and my babies were and thought I will just head to the van and hope they have the same thought. I grabbed the key card and diaper bag on the way out. Just as we were leaving I noticed some of the housekeeping gals were coming UP the stairs all calm so I just stood there. They said that there didn't seem to be anything wrong and their boss was turning it off... It stopped. Okay, so where is my family??? I was just trying to call Aaron when he said "we're right here". I turned around and he was carrying both boys towards the door with a ... LOOK on his face. What? What is going on? He said something like, "Want to guess who pulled the alarm?" Panic hit as I quickly put 2 and 2 together and said "SHHHH... get inside" I could just see all the neighbors who had been woken up from this early morning drill beating us up or sabbataging our car (that would come later). Sure enough, you have put 2 and 2 together and realized it was indeed our cute little (at that point nearly dead!) Trevor!!! I wanted to die.
I guess Jared had gone one way, Trev the other and when Aaron turned his back to grab the younger one Trev saw something fun to touch... and now the ENTIRE hotel was up. Good morning!!!!
Well we made it through breakfast and out the door without anybody figuring out it was us! PHEW!
The agenda for the day... HIKING. We had planned to go to Zion but not wanting to pay or to drive forever decided to go to the Willis Creek Slot Canyon in the Grand Staircase. We headed out on our journey.

The agenda for the day... HIKING. We had planned to go to Zion but not wanting to pay or to drive forever decided to go to the Willis Creek Slot Canyon in the Grand Staircase. We headed out on our journey.
We wound through the unpaved road up and down and around and just when you think we have to be there there was more winding and up and down to do. We had to stop for a cattle drive, drive through some little creeks that the road passed through, but the view was amazing. We saw a really neat gorge and then finally we saw the trailhead parking lot! Yay, we had made it... almost. Just one more HUGE pothole to fly through and then... Andrew says, "What was that?" I said "Just Dad trying to blow a tire" totally joking, but making a point that we had gone through a huge pothole and way too fast.
We pull into the parking lot... ready to hike and hear the sound of all the air wooshing out of the front left tire. Dad HAD blown a tire. Oh for the LOVE!!! Could anything just go right for us today? Please!
Spread out a blanket and fed the kids while Aaron fixed the flat. Could not believe the amount of people that walked by and never even said, "Do you need a hand" or anything. But, Aaron is a handy guy luckily and we got the spare on and so we locked up and finally we were off!
Now, we had heard there was some water hiking, I had planned for a little water but had not realized that you had to walk through the creek, right through it, in many places. SO glad we had put on hiking shoes... well except Aaron so that when we got back we had dry socks and shoes to put on... dug out some clean pants too for the kids.
The boys had SO much fun on this hike. Several times I heard this is the best hike ever, I love this hike. I think mostly it was because they got to walk in the water but it was really fun. We made it about to the big fork we were told so I don't know if that was the full 1.5 miles in or not before we headed back. We had some complaining on the way back, not so much fun anymore and poor Aaron carried Trev besides Jared who was in a backpack on his back. Good thing he is strong and tough!
Well, we didn't think anything would be open because it was a holiday (Memorial Day) and so we planned to just fix the tire Tuesday. Going the slow and steady 65 on the freeway was going to kill me but better not to blow the spare too, right. As we approached Beaver we decided to take a much needed potty stop (the boys all went along the trees and bushes... serveral times each... but not the Mommy!)
As we pulled into Burger King in Beaver there was a tire place next door... OPEN!!!
Hallalujah, Aaron got the tire fixed while I fed the boys and then we let them run around a few minutes before we loaded up and headed home... going much faster than 65 the entire way!!!
(did you know it is 80 in a lot of those stretches down there now?) :)
Tuesday was this mess (above) and the kids were so happy to be able to run around in their yard and house and Jared could finally walk around without being hounded to get back. Vacations are fun but it is nice to be home. I was saying that I don't plan to take them again for a while though... they are so embarrasing and difficult. But, I am glad that we went and am sure that we will do another vacation soon.
Thanks to Jeremy and Clarissa for giving us a reason to go!
